Heartburn and acid reflux
Heartburn or gastro-oesophageal reflux (GORD) is a condition where acid from the stomach flows into your foodpipe (oesophagus). This can cause intense pain or discomfort. This can occur after eating certain foods, or even just by lying flat.

GORD is usually investigated with an Upper GI endoscopy (OGD), which involves a camera being passed through the mouth and into the stomach. This usually is done under sedation at your request. GORD can often be treated with over the counter or prescription medication, but may need a operation to fix.
